Beaverhead River Fishing Report

[eye_row data_width=”container”][eye_column data_width=”7″][eye_text]

Clark Canyon reservoir has flipped, which typically happens this time of year. When the reservoir flips the water is murky coming out of the spillway. Fishing has been tough from the dam down to Barretts. Our best fishing has been through the Dillon stretches below Barretts. Streamer fishing and some hoppers in the afternoon has been getting it done. When the clarity improves up top near the dam we will let you know. Flows still remain good out of Clark Canyon reservoir. Look for the flows to start dropping soon as irrigation demands subside.

The Beaverhead has continued to fish well. You will find pockets of PMD’s, some tricos and a few stray Yellow Sallies. Look for the trico’s and hoppers to take charge this week. We have had some fantastic hopper fishing on the Beaverhead recently. Flows out of clark canyon reservoir are currently @ 600cfs. It is time to get out and enjoy the last of the hopper fishing because fall is around the corner.

Beaverhead River Fishing Report

[eye_row data_width=”container”][eye_column data_width=”7″][eye_text]

Fishing has been pretty good on the Beaverhead lately. We have been fishing from High Bridge down to Barrett’s. You will find yellow sallies below High Bridge. The hopper fishing has been pretty good from Henneberry down stream. If you stick with the hopper you will be rewarded with a tremendous brown trout. You will find moss below the dam until you get to High Bridge. The water below High Bridge is clear and the moss is not putting a damper on your fishing. The Flow out of Clark Canyon Reservoir was 651cfs this morning.

Beaverhead River Fishing Report

The Beaverhead River currently has an outflow of 750cfs. The Beaverhead River has been fishing very well for us over the last several weeks. We have been enjoying hatches of PMD’s, Yellow Sallies and caddis. It has been a fantastic big fish month on the Beaverhead River. You can stalk fish rising to PMD’s and sallies right now or sling some nymphs on the bottom. The river remains crystal clear and we look for this fishery to keep bending rods for awhile.

The Beaverhead River has been fishing well. Our Beaverhead River guides have been finding some nice fish lately. With Clark Canyon Creek running dirty due to the heavy rain we have been forced to fish up near the dam. Since the rain is supposed to subside starting tomorrow, Clark Canyon Creek will clear up and you will be able to fish below High Bridge. We have found some PMD’s and Sallies hatching but the bulk of the hatch is still yet to come. Nymphing has been the name of the game lately with some streamer fishing working as well.

Beaverhead River Fishing Report

[eye_row data_width=”container”][eye_column data_width=”7″][eye_text]

We have had a great start to the season opener on the upper Beaverhead River. Flows are dropping out of Clark Canyon reservoir @ 580 cfs this morning. The upper Beaverhead has been all nymph fishing lately. You will not find any hatches but the nymphing has been good. We have been throwing sow bugs, scuds, and san juan worms. You will want to stay on the stretch above grasshopper creek since it is running muddy. You will find a bunch of wade anglers near the dam stretch. Once you get below High Bridge the crowds thin out.

Outflows from Clark Canyon Reservoir continue to be over 600cfs. Clark Canyon reservoir is 100% full and we will have a fabulous water year on the Beaverhead. We have been fishing from Pipe Organ bridge downstream. You will find caddis hatching on the river. Sub surface we have been using caddis nymphs, and san juan worms. Grasshopper creek is off color so fishing below that has been tough. From pipe organ bridge down stream is crowded since it is one of the few places in Montana with clear water. We have also been getting them on streamers. The J.J. has been the streamer of choice lately on the beaverhead.

Remember if you are going to fish the Beaverhead that you must remain from Pipe Organ Bridge downstream until the 3rd Saturday of May. The upper river is closed to protect the rainbows while they spawn.

The flows are up out of Clark Canyon Reservoir. Today the outflow is 600cfs. They will be matching the inflow with the outflow starting tomorrow. Clark Canyon Reservoir is 100% full, which is great news for spring fishing and summer fishing on the Beaverhead River. Fishing has been good below Pipe Organ bridge. With the increased flow the worm fishing has been the ticket. With the burst of cold water to the system hatches have been bleak. Streamers and nymphing san juan worms has been the best source of protein for the fish. Remember if you are going to fish the Beaverhead that you must remain from Pipe Organ Bridge downstream until the 3rd Saturday of May. The upper river is closed to protect the rainbows while they spawn.

Beaverhead River Spring Special

[eye_row data_width=”container”][eye_column data_width=”0-12-0″][eye_text]

The Beaverhead River is one of the tailwaters in the state that remains ice free this time of year. The river is a bit off color today around Dillon. Clark canyon is 88% full right now and we haven’t even had any snowmelt entering the reservoir. This is all good news for the fishing season on the Beaverhead. Winter releases from clark canyon have also been better this year, which keeps the fish healthy. Remember if you are going to fish the Beaverhead that you must remain from Pipe Organ Bridge downstream until the 3rd Saturday of May. The upper river is closed to protect the rainbows while they spawn. It is mainly nymphing right now on the Beaverhead with midge patters, worms, and slow moving deep streamers.

Clark Canyon Outflow is currently 435 cfs. the Beaverhead is running at a nice flow but you will have floating and submerged moss on the upper end of the river. From the dam down to high bridge is difficult to fish subsurface due to the moss. The lower stretches of the beaverhead are fishing very well on hoppers. We have done well below Henneberry and Grasshopper creek on the terrestrials. Ants, hoppers and some caddis are hatching on the beaverhead. Clarity has remained good on the beaverhead.
