Beaverhead River Fishing Report

The Beaverhead continues to produce fantastic fish this year for us. Flows out of Clark Canyon Reservoir have come up substantially due to irrigation needs in the valley. Flows out of Clark Canyon Reservoir are sitting around 680cfs this morning. Wade fishing will be very tough right now, so your best option is floating. With these higher flows the best dry fly fishing will be near the dam and the further down stream you go the dry fly opportunity will be tougher. We have hatches of PMD’s, Caddis and Yellow Sallies. Look for hopper fishing to pick up in a few weeks. The upper Beaverhead has had great dry fly opportunities on PMD’s and the Caddis fishing in the evening has been fantastic.

Beaverhead River Fishing Report

Flows out of Clark Canyon Reservoir are currently on the drop. The outflow this morning is 672 cfs. We have had good fishing from Buffalo bridge down stream. Our best tactic has been nymphs and streamers. Nymphs of choice have been sow bugs, scuds and some small olive may fly nymphs. Streamers of choice have been colors in the olive or black zone. We haven’t seen much for hatches yet on the upper end of the Beaverhead River. Fish are healthy and we have been catching many in the size range of 18 inches – 22 inches so far this season.

The rain we have had the last 48 hours has brought the river on the rise.

[eye_row data_width=”container”][eye_column data_width=”0-12-0″][eye_text]

The rain we have had the last 48 hours has brought the river on the rise. We had a fantastic day on the upper Big Hole yesterday. The clarity remains at about 18 inches on the upper Big Hole above the Wise River. The clarity here around Melrose is only about 6 inches. The Big Hole will fish above the Wise River today but I would stay off the Big Hole below the Wise River unless you just want a fast boat ride. We had the most success for large fish yesterday on San Juan Worms and streamers. It should be another big fish day on the upper Big Hole.
