Spring Special on the Beaverhead River

It is time to book your Spring Special on the Beaverhead River with Sunrise Fly Shop. We have been running spring trips for over 17 years. This should be a great year to fish the Beaverhead in April. You will find Blue Winged Olives hatching, solid nymphing and the opportunity to throw streamers. Contact us today to book your trip.

Spring fly fishing in Southwest Montana enables you to fish a variety of styles to produce fish. If you join us for a float trip on the Beaverhead Rivers this Spring we will be throwing dry flies, nymphs or streamers to catch fish. You will find this season to be uncrowded and rewarding. What makes the spring magical is that we get the first large hatches of the year and the trout are ready to eat. You can be the first anglers to tease these trout this spring. It is not uncommon to have your best fishing day of the season in April.

The Beaverhead has been fishing well below Pipe Organ Bridge. Flows are low so leave the boat home and wade fish. We have done well nymphing sow bugs, blue winged olive nymphs and caddis nymphs. Remember that the upper Beaverhead River is closed from the Dam to Pip Organ Bridge until the 3rd Saturday of May to let the rainbows Spawn. Below Grasshopper Creek has been muddy so call for up to date information on the clarity down below Grasshopper Creek.

The rain we have had the last 48 hours has brought the river on the rise.

The rain we have had the last 48 hours has brought the river on the rise. We had a fantastic day on the upper Big Hole yesterday. The clarity remains at about 18 inches on the upper Big Hole above the Wise River. The clarity here around Melrose is only about 6 inches. The Big Hole will fish above the Wise River today but I would stay off the Big Hole below the Wise River unless you just want a fast boat ride. We had the most success for large fish yesterday on San Juan Worms and streamers. It should be another big fish day on the upper Big Hole.
