Big Hole River Fishing Report

The River had been on a rather steep bump in flow until it leveled off yesterday. We went out and gave it a shot last night.  Divide to Melrose fished pretty well yesterday subsurface.  The standard yellow zonker, Sparkle minnows and S.J. worms worked well.  The river looks like it is going to drop the next few days since we have freezing nighttime temperatures.  Caddis are still hatching but the fish are not very interested in rising in the high flows right  now. With the river dropping look for improving dry fly fishing.

The Big Hole continues to fish well. The river has dropped down to about 2000 cfs and there is more than two feet of visibility. The fish are definitely moving into faster water than they were in a week ago. We are having less and less success in the soft inside seams and finding that the fishing has been more consistent on the faster moving banks. Streamers and San Juan Worms have still be the best flies, but last night we started seeing caddis flying. Admittedly we didn't see a lot of caddis, but with the warm forecast for the next two days we might see the Mother's Day Caddis hatch pop.

Above is a nice 22 inch Brown that Jason Abul Jubein caught Sunday May 12th on a streamer between Brownes Bridge and Glen Bar.
