Madison River Fishing Report

Date: 10-May-2012
Fishing Report:

The upper Madison just took a bump last night and is still rising.  Not a good option on the rise.  Rain last night caused this bump.  Give it a couple days and it should level off and fish well again.  We have been doing well with olive and black streamers.  The lower Madison is stable and fishing well.  Mother's Day Caddis are hatching and the dry fly fishing is very good in the evenings.  Right now I would stick to the lower river until the upper river stabilizes.

Flies: #6 Pats rubber legs, sheila Sculpin, #4 Slap-N-Tickle #8 Copper Zonker, #4 Muddy Buddy, #6 Black Bow River Bugger #14 X Caddis #14 CDC Caddis

Fishing Report:
We are in the transition period on the Madison right now.  It is fishing well with smaller flies: Caddis, and yellow sallies.  We are waiting for the nocturnal stones to start coming off.  We should have them here in about a week.  Until then fish the caddis, and sallies or drag some fur with a small bead head behind it.  Good stuff over here and it will get really good on the stonefly dries and hoppers soon.
