Beaverhead River Fishing Report

Date: 19-May-2012
Fishing Report:

Let the chaos begin.  It is opening day on the famous Beaverhead River.  Get out there and poke those fish that haven't seen a fly in 6 months.  Usually the Beaverhead is low at this time if the year.  With early water demands the outflow at the dam is 709cfs.  You will not be able to wade fish your normal May spots.  Your best bet is to be floating right now.  Your standard sow bugs, scuds, and soft hackle sow bugs will tear them up today.  It will be busy down there but maybe the high flows will push people away.

Flies: #14 X Caddis #16 Rub-A-Dub, #20 micro mayfly, #18 Splitback BWO, #18 Ray Charles, #16 Scud tan, pink or grey #4 Sculpzilla Black/olive/white

Fishing Report:

The Beaverhead is open for fishing below the Pipe Organ Fishing Access. The Mother's Day Caddis are out on the Beaverhead. Look for fish up and eating in the afternoons and evenings on the warm sunny days. Nymphing has also been solid with Caddis pupa, #16 Rub-A-Dub's. Streamer fishing has been off and on depending on the cloud cover. Gin clear water and the crowds are down since the Big Hole has been fishing well.
